The movie world was abuzz this week about the role of Captain America being offered to Will Smith. And while I think that people would love Smith as the hero and would definitely bring justice to the role, you cant neglect the fact that some people prefer Steve Rogers to be white.
However we do know of a particular story in the comic books about the super secret serum being tested on other people before Steve Rogers and one of them happens to be a slave. So the probability of that happening isn’t so far-fetched as well.
Another reason why this topic is of importance; because the next Captain America is deemed to reprise the character in the Avengers movie in 2011, and will play among other super heroes Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel Jackson (who will play Nick Fury.. also previously white).
We’ll see what happens…

I don’t know if I’m being too zealous about this but I do see Leonardo di Caprio as Captain America. He’s got the all American, blue collar look. He’s not a pretty boy, but he’s handsome and he does have enough spunk. I’m also liking the idea of Di Caprio playing the hero because he’s been stuck with the Titanic boy image. I mean, that dude’s 33 years old now…
The history of the film is what I find most intriguing, would it start in present day or would they stay true to the origins and have him discovered frozen in a block of ice:
Source: …the superhero team the Avengers discovers Steve Rogers’ body in the North Atlantic, his costume under his soldier’s uniform and still carrying his shield. After he revives, they piece together that Rogers had been preserved in a block of ice since 1945, surviving in such a state only because of his enhancements from Operation Rebirth.
Anyway, this isn’t set in stone yet. The only thing we know is that Marvel is interested in him (and Brad Pitt, so for all you know it might be Brad as Cap and Leo as Thor).
