Robert Downey Jr.’s past isn’t hidden to anyone. His numerous cases of substance abuse is now a thing of Wikipedia but was the front page some 10 years back. And while he’d been an acclaimed actor for so long, it was not until he landed the role of Iron Man that people really took notice of him.
In 2006 Downey was surprisingly cast for the title character in the film Iron Man, with director Jon Favreau explaining the choice by stating: “Downey, Jr., wasn’t the most obvious choice but he understood what makes the character tick. He found a lot of his own life experience in ‘Tony Stark.’
The rest is history of course, Iron Man became one of the year’s blockbuster movies and Robert Downey Jr. is arguably in the greatest place of his career, even landing the cover page RollingStones magazine in which he, pertaining to his past, said:
“I’m such a work in progress at the moment, it’s crazy, and life wants me on edge, I swear to you. But as long as I don’t forget the past, I’m cool. One must always be mindful, just like you might forget that old girlfriend who tried to slit your throat, but she’s really still hot. If you remember the stitches more than you remember the pussy, you’re going to be just fine.”
Awesome quote… Graphic too. I will never forget it.
