Prior to Guillermo del Toro being formally announced as the director of the Tolkien classic The Hobbit, there had already been rumors about how to bridge the gap between the film as well as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy which happened decades after. And now that he is at its helm, rumors have flourished that Del Toro is not only going to direct The Hobbit but The Gap as well - pun intended. Lolz!
I’ve not seen any formal announcements that such a movie is in the works - although it’s been raised that Del Toro is working with Peter Jackson and the special effected company WETA (the same company that worked in LOTR) to shoot the film back-to-back. The Hobbit is set to show in 2011 and surrounds the story of Frodo’s uncle Bilbo. Castings have also been purely speculative now regarding Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen reprising their roles as Gollum and Galdalf.
