With June only a couple of days away and summer sweeping past the California coast, here are a couple of good excuses to get away from the sun. I’d say the upcoming movies for June are quite the popcorn quality. As kids are the ones hanging out the malls anyway, most of the flicks seem to be made for them.

Kung Fu Panda
I’ve had it marked ever since I saw Jack Black at Cannes. I even have one post solely for it… I think the reviews for this one were pretty good though I’m not expecting too much because that’s just how I am with ensemble casts.

You Dont Mess With the Zohan
I always found Adam Sandler films hilarious so I know this one’s good enough to pay 10 bucks for. In this movie, he plays a Jewish guy named Zohan who leaves the james bond life to be a New York hairdresser. Rob Schneider, who is just as hilarious as Sandler, plays an Arab guy, (probably Palestinian but I’m not sure) and finds Zohan while driving a cab.

The Happening
It has a freaky trailer that I somehow can’t find a connection with. I dont know if it’s because of Mark Wahlberg or that it’s another M. Night Shyamalan flick. For me the “Shyamalan dynasty” started with Sixth Sense and ended with Signs. Seriously, that dude is one over rated writer-director-whatever.

The Incredible Hulk
Lucky for you The Incredible Hulk will show the same day as The Happening, so you wont have to endure boringly conceived dark flicks. Plus, you know how I am with comic derived movies, I get orgasmic talking about them. I’m not much of a Hulk fan - just coz he reminds of Slimer. - but I do think this movie is worth watching. Edward Norton, for one, is a pretty convincing actor.

Get Smart
Steve Carell. ‘Nuff said. The guy is funny even when he’s not trying. But I would warn you for some corniness — Steve Carell films tend to be slapstick most of the time so you’ll have to sift through your inner comedian. For me, it is his dead pan humor that draws wonders. This films also has The Rock..

The Love Guru
Like Carell, Myers isn’t one that I adore much - or actually, not at all. Other than Shrek, I’ve never really seen any of his films. He’s a bit weird but not so much like Will Ferrel. So I guess we’ll just have to find other movies to watch other than his. =P

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
If you watch Oprah, you do anything she says and Kit Kittredge is one of the movies she’s recommended people to see. Again, I’m pretty much sold out to movies that rock as opposed to girly flicks that remind me of how childhood-deprived i’ve been.. so I’ll skip this one.

WALL-E
Yet another animated flick. Again, one I’m not excited with… but I’m sure many are.

Wanted
This film doesn’t get enough advertising which certainly makes it quite underrated. I think I wanna watch it because it’s Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. But I might wait until I see the reviews. Trailer below

  1. Movies are on a roll! So many big movies so little time!

Robert Downey Jr. is gonna be in the Hulk movie right? A cameo of Tony Stark.

It just sucks that movies are shown later in the Philippines (except for worldwide releases). I still havent seen Narnia!

  2. Oh no. Good movies = long lines at movie houses. Looking forward to Kung Fu Panda. I hope they release it early.

  3. The Wanted trailer looks good. I wonder why it’s not getting much press. The script must really stink or something.
